Overview
Most journeys begin in Paro, whose valley is home to the Rinpung Dzong and, high on a cliffside, the Paro Taktsang monastery, famously known as Tiger's Nest. The capital, Thimphu, blends tradition and modern life, with its great fortress-monastery, markets and the Buddha Dordenma overlooking the valley.
Over the Dochula Pass lies Punakha, where the grand Punakha Dzong rises at the meeting of two rivers amid rice terraces. Travelling at an unhurried pace, with private guides and carefully chosen lodgings, guests discover a kingdom that measures success by Gross National Happiness and welcomes visitors with quiet, gracious hospitality.
