Duration
24 days · 23 nights

Overview

This is the grand tour of Africa — five countries, from the Cape to the Indian Ocean. It begins in Cape Town with Table Mountain, Robben Island, the Cape Peninsula and the Winelands, then flies north to Victoria Falls for a private tour of the Falls, a Zambezi sunset cruise and a boma dinner.

In Kenya the safari unfolds in stages: Ol Pejeta Conservancy, home to chimpanzees and the last northern white rhinos; the flamingo-fringed shores of Lake Nakuru; and three nights in the Masai Mara, including a hot-air balloon flight over the plains. A short flight carries you to Tanzania's Serengeti for more days of game viewing, then to the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural amphitheatre teeming with wildlife.

The journey ends in the warm air of Zanzibar, with Stone Town's carved doors and spice plantations to explore before your flight home.

We will pass the Company Gardens and the Malay Quarter, also known as the Bo-Kaap which means, Above Cape, because of its location up against the slopes of Table Mountain. In the early 18th century, thousands of slaves from Java, Ceylon and other Far Eastern regions were brought to Cape Town. After slavery was abolished, their descendants, known as the Cape Malays, settled here. Continue to join a sparkling tour, witness the art of diamond cutting and the careful craftsmanship of jewellery manufacturing by skilled experts. Discover the history of the Diamond and Gold Trade in South Africa. You will continue to Table Mountain, where you can ascend to the top, weather permitting by the revolving cable car. Guests will take a trip to the top of the world, high above the clouds on the famous Table Mountain. At the upper cable station, guests will find a restaurant and a curio shop as well as some footpaths for exploration. Table Mountain is an icon in Cape Town and is most likely the most photographed landmark in the country. Table Mountain has been named as on the seven wonders of nature and attracts millions over visitors from all across the globe, in fact, since the opening of the aerial cableway in 1929, more than 22 million people have taken the trip to the top. At the top you will see wildflowers and the famous silver tree, and marvel at a birds-eye view of the city and its beaches. On a clear day it is even possible to see Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned on one side and Cape Point on the other. On completion of your tour at approximately 12:30pm you will be dropped off at V&A Waterfront where you can have lunch (own account) before your next excursion. Cape Peninsula Tour

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel then depart on a Scheduled full day Cape Peninsula Tour. The drive there is just as inspiring, passing steep mountains' secluded coves and sweeping beaches, as well as villages and fishing communities. Our tour begins with a scenic drive along the Atlantic coast, passing through the cosmopolitan suburbs of Sea Point and Camps Bay with its glorious views of the Twelve Apostles, part of the Table Mountain range. We'll continue to the fishing village of Hout Bay, one of Cape Town's best-kept secrets. Here there is an option to take a short boat trip to Duiker Island (for own account & time permitting) to view the Cape Fur Seals, which inhabit the island. From here we travel to the Cape Point Nature Reserve, comprising over 17,300 acres of indigenous fauna and flora. Here we can see a variety of wildlife that includes baboons, Reebok, Cape Mountain zebra, bontebok and the elusive eland. The reserve is also one of the world's largest breeding grounds for tortoises. Bird-watchers, too, will find many fine species to observe. The majestic coastline offers drama worthy of being called "Nature's Greatest Show." We'll be able to see the union of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans (as per legend), and may even feel the brisk wind that is dubbed the "Cape Doctor" for its presumed curative powers. Following the coastline along False Bay, we'll return to Cape Town by way of Simon's Town, where we visit the Penguin colony at Boulders Beach (entrance fee included) and Fish Hoek fishing village. Cape Winelands tour

This morning, we are off to the Winelands for a scheduled full day tour. While South Africa's fertile valleys are world famous for their crisp white and classic French-style red wines, the area is also a treasury of rustic beauty and sprawling estates shaded by giant oak trees. The drive will include the country's principal wine routes of Paarl, Stellenbosch, and Franschhoek, with a stop en route for lunch (for own account). The day starts with a visit to Paarl where guests will be struck by the beauty of the Valley, the pristine blue sky, the rolling vineyards, and the Pearl of Paarl set high above the valley. Paarl made headlines when President Mandela was released from the Groot Drakenstein prison (formerly known as Victor Verster prison), on the outskirts of the town, to freedom and the start of the new South Africa. Guests will enjoy a wine tasting at one of the local estates. From Paarl, guests will continue north-west to the beautiful village of Franschhoek, near the Drakenstein Mountains founded in 1688 by French immigrants fleeing the Huguenot religious persecution in Europe. A memorial in the town commemorates the arrival of these early settlers who helped develop the wines sought after by Napoleon, Bismarck, and royalty such as Edward VII, the Prince of Wales. Here we will stop for lunch (for own account) and another wine tasting at a local vineyard. Guests will then head to Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa and the historic heart of the country's wine region. In 1679, Dutch East India Company governor Simon van der Stel, recognized the fertility of this long valley on the banks of the Eerste River, as perfect for vineyards. The rest is history, which has been carefully cultivated in this town. A gracious blend of 18th-century Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian buildings is evident on Dorp Street, where massive oaks still shade original water furrows. Enjoy a final wine tasting before returning to Cape Town. Arrive the hotel at approximately 5:00pm and spend the evening at leisure.

Welcome to Zanzibar The Story of an Island Paradise: The very mention of Zanzibar - the beautiful and historic spice island lying just off the coast of Tanzania - is enough to conjure up a multitude of mental images that are both exotic and striking. It is this emotional reaction that has caused this Indian Ocean Island to become one of the world’s most sought-after holiday destinations. Stepping Back in Time: The island’s history is indelibly stamped by hundreds of years of trade in spices - nutmeg, cinnamon and saffron to name-but-three - with itinerant merchants traveling by sailing ship from as far away as Europe, the Middle East and even China. It has been this commodity - one as valuable as gold in its time - that has driven and shaped the cultural flavors of the island. Zanzibar’s architecture, language and religion are a reflection of both the island’s distant and recent past; with the passing dhows that constantly sail along the coastline and the murmurs of the fishermen drifting on the sea breeze, that past is seemingly not so distant. The magical island has been likened to that of a time capsule, one that has been unopened by modern tourism. On arrival and after baggage collection, walk to the arrival hall where you will be welcomed by another of our representatives then chauffeured to your hotel. Dinner is included at the resort.

How it works

Made to order

  • Every Tourcan trip is built by a specialist, not a template — the route, hotels, and pace are tuned to how you want to travel.
  • Dates are flexible. There are no fixed departures; we plan around your calendar.
  • Quotes and bookings happen by phone and email with your specialist — no automated checkout, just a real conversation.
